Thernconcerts would coincide with Universal Music (currentrnowners of the A&M label) re-releasing some material fromrnthe band\'s back catalog. The following statement wasrnreleased on behalf of the band by a spokesperson atrnInterscope Geffen A&M Records and posted on Sting\'srnofficial website: "As the 30th anniversary of the firstrnPolice single approaches, discussions have been underwayrnas to how this will be commemorated. While we can confirmrnthat there will indeed be something special done to markrnthe occasion, the depth of the band\'s involvement stillrnremains undetermined."rnrnOn January 22nd, 2007, the punk wave magazine Side-Linernbroke the story that The Police would reunite for thernGrammys, adding that the song performed would bern"Roxanne". All this information appeared to be correct.rnSide-Line also announced in its news coverage that ThernPolice were to embark on a massive tour bringing them torncities all over the world. Billboard magazine later onrnconfirmed the rumours, quoting Andy Summers who hadrndiscussed earlier in 2006 how the band could haverncontinued post-Synchronicity: "The more rational approachrnwould have been, \'OK, Sting, go make a solo record, andrnlet\'s get back together in two or three years,\' " he said.rn"I\'m certain we could have done that. Of course we couldrnhave. We were definitely not in a creative dry space. Werncould have easily carried on, and we could probably stillrnbe there. That wasn\'t to be our fate. It went in anotherrnway. I regret we never paid it off with a last tour."rnrnInside sources have admitted that the group had in factrnbegun tour rehearsals in Vancouver, British Columbia, andrnthat further details on the reunion tour would bernannounced in February, including a performance at the 49thrnAnnual Grammy Awards on February 11, 2007. A local radiornstation, Rock101, reported this information to the generalrnpublic on January 24, 2007. There have been numerousrnsightings of the group and their entourage in thernVancouver area as expectation builds of a pending reunionrntour.rnrnThe Police opened the 49th Annual Grammy Awards on 11rnFebruary 2007 in Los Angeles, California, announcing "Wernare The Police and we\'re back!" before launching intorn"Roxanne." A&M Records, the band\'s record company, isrnpromoting the current 2007-2008 reunion tour as the 30thrnanniversary of the release of their first single and notrnindeed that of the band\'s creation. The single was released in April 1978.rnrnThe Police opened their Reunion Tour in Vancouver on Mayrn28 in front of 22,000 delighted fans at one of two nearlyrnsold-out concerts.
