There is no Pearl Jam album to throw away. This album is as good as Yield and Vitalogy and No Code better in some aspects, worse in others. If Binaural lacks the early Pearl Jam energy, it gains in creativity and maturing. True, however, some songs just don't "catch". Until the middle of the album, the album fails to pick up and every song is just the next one but a close listen to the songs shows that the band have put a lot of efforts into this. "Insignificance" and "Grievance" are probably one of the most violent and bitter charged numbers since "Vs"."Of the Girl" is amazingly superp, and "Thin Air" althoug too short sees Eddie at his vocal best. Elsewhere "Breakerfall" "God's Dice" rock without really rocking and "Light Years" is a more melancholic version of Yield's wondery "Faithful". The strongest point about "binaural" is that it is very solid. And indeed since "Vs" Pearl Jam have been delivering some intriguing experimental moments which may have left their progression too unfocussed. "Binaural" is also a storng standpoint in the band's career in a time where rock no longer existed.
