Volume three of Concord's Duo Series features Cleveland native Ken Peplowski (clarinet, tenor sax) with guitarist Howard Alden on a wide gamut of selections covering numerous jazz styles from Jelly Roll Morton's "Why" to Charlie Parker's "Chasin' The Bird" to tunes from Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter. More unique in instrumentaion than previous volumes, the voicings provide for some rare lines which demonstrate the musician's commendable technical expertise and superb innovative skills. Peplowski's smooth clarinet(and breathy tenor) solos are equally matched by Alden's awesome acoustic guitar solos (on which he stylistically accompanies himself).
