A tribute to Pink Floyd keyboardist, singer and songwriter Richard Wright, who died on 15 September, aged 65. The programme chronicles Wright's personal history with the band, told entirely in his own voice drawing from BBC archive material and an interview (his last ever for radio) conducted in September 2007 by producer Mark Hagen. Featured tracks which he wrote or co-wrote include Remember a Day (1968), Sysyphus (1969), Echoes (1971), Us and Them and The Great Gig in the Sky (1973), Shine on You Crazy Diamond (1975) and Wearing the Inside Out (1994).

Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, who died last month, was probably one of the most unassuming men in rock and that certainly comes across in the 2007 interview at the heart of this tribute. While original frontman Syd Barrett has achieved a status that borders on the religious, and Roger Waters and David Gilmour were seen at different times to be the band's main creative force, Wright went about his business with a quiet dignity. He helped take the group from R&B covers outfit to supreme rock experimentalists, along the way co-writing classic tracks such as Us and Them and The Great Gig in the Sky. With a current music scene that offers an infinite number of pretenders serving up a seemingly endless supply of bland material, we should mourn the loss of a true innovator.
