synopsis

Joanna, une jeune veuve de la Nouvelle Orléans, se rend en plein coeur de la forêt amazonienne pour rencontrer son mari. Mari qu'elle n'a jamais vu, les épousailles ayant été conclues par correspondance ! Elle rencontre donc son nouvel époux Christopher Leningen, un homme rude, qui a toujours vécu dans la jungle et a bâti de ses propres mains sa plantation de cacao. Mais c'est un homme rude, peu enclin à la galanterie, et, rapidement, la mésentente se fait jour entre les nouveaux mariés. Pendant ce temps, dans la forêt, les indiens vivent dans la terreur. Tous craignent le retour de "Marabunta". Marabunta désigne en fait une horrible meute de fournis dévorant tout sur son passage, y compris les êtres vivants !
